Chania– Argiroupolis – Aptera

Chania: Chania is a unique city bearing a rich and long history and culture. Since the ancient times, the city of Chania has faced many conquerors and the influences of many civilizations are evident on the city monuments. The beautiful city of Chania has managed to preserve its original colors and historical character, despite the fast-growing tourist industry. It is considered as one of the most beautiful cities of Greece and the most picturesque city of Crete. A walk in the narrow streets of the old city offers nostalgic images from the past. We invite you to explore with us our lovely city and its unique monuments: the Grand Arsenal, the Egyptian Lighthouse, the Venetian dockyard (“Neoria”), the Turkish quarters, the Synagogue, the fortress and the covered food market in the center of the town with an amazing array of delicacies for sale.

Argiroupolis: After the guided tour in the city, we will continue to Argiroupolis a picturesque village with 400 permanent residents. One of the most characteristic features of the village is that several architectural parts of ancient constructions have been reused in recent buildings. At an almost exotic location called “Piges” which means sources, there are many perennial plane trees, small waterfalls, ponds and streams with crystal clear flowing waters that move several watermills.

Aptera: Our last stop will be at the Aptera Ruins, built in the 7th century BC. The ancient city of Aptera was one of the most important ancient city-states in western Crete and the position of the ancient Aptera is one of the most impressive in Crete, situated high on a level plateau with a fantastic panoramic view. In all directions there is rare beauty to meet the eye: the Cretan sea, the exceptionally beautiful valley of Apokoronas and the high White Mountains are all to be seen.
